Things to consider about your current or future property!
Buying a residential property whether home, townhouse, condominium (condo) without a Home Inspection is comparable to buying a new car without sitting in the drivers seat and taking a test drive!
Whether buying, selling or just wanting to know the condition of your present home, consider the following:
Would you put your family in your vehicle and take a long road trip without first checking all the fluids, tire pressure and the general road worthiness of the vehicle?
Would you put your child in a school or day care facility without researching how safe your child would be in that facility?
The answers to these questions is a resounding NO! No one would knowingly place their family members in an unsafe environment or harm’s way!
We take our vehicles to the dealer or to a trusted auto repair shop to have it serviced and checked over. We go to the doctors for health check-ups, but our homes; which we consider our safe haven, rarely, if ever, have a periodic check-up (inspection).
Most people (if not all) only think of a Home Inspector primarily when buying or selling a home, which is understandable and a very practical thing to do.
But, our current homes and future homes are exposed to weather conditions year in and year out; which is the most formidable enemy of any standing structure!
Rain, snow, hail and wind batter and wear at homes and if damage goes undetected for any length of time, can cost us thousands of dollars in repairs.
More importantly, many homes have unsafe conditions and we are unknowingly exposing ourselves and our families to risk.
Let’s face it, how many of us spend time on our roof, in the mechanical room, attic and crawlspace? These areas and other out of the way spots go unseen for extended periods of time and where hidden issues become big problems!
Take a mental walk through your home. and try to recall the following:
- How long has it been since anyone has been in the attic or crawlspace?
- Have there been repairs made to the house which haven’t been inspected by anyone other than the contractor who performed the work?
- Have there been high winds or other severe weather conditions over the past 6 months to a year?
- Have I had remodeling work or an addition added to my home? Have I had any mechanical equipment replaced such as heating / cooling equipment or water heater? Plumbing or electrical repairs performed? Unfortunately, there can be rushing to complete the work, sub-standard workmanship and/or corners cut to make their work a little easier!
There can be a multitude of issues you may be living with, without even knowing these safety concerns are putting you, your family and your home at further risk.
All homes require ongoing maintenance and a Home Inspection should be included in that maintenance budget. Making sure your current or future homes mechanical, structural, electrical and plumbing systems are sound with no safety concerns will not only protect your family and investment, but will help you prevent further damage to your home by having those conditions identified and repaired before further damage occurs.
A licensed, professional and qualified home inspector can identify issues of concern.
If you are looking for an inspector with the above qualities PLUS integrity, look no further and please give me a call!
